Dynamo has been invited to make a presentation to Lancaster City Council’s Citizen’s Jury as part of the Local Climate Engagement Programme on 11 September.
What is needed is a short presentation on improving cycling safety in our district. We already have some ideas – e.g. improving road markings, enforcement of 20mph limits, and general maintenance of cycle infrastructure – but we’d welcome your suggestions. In particular, it would be good to have ideas for areas outside Lancaster city centre!
Please post a comment below or reply to Dynamo with any comments/suggestions by 1 September.
A massive opportunity is being missed by not having a cycle path alongside the canal south of Lancaster. Once you get out of the city the smooth path disappears and it is rough gravel or mud. As an off-road route this would be an excellent way to encourage cycling in the area.
Cycling down the A6 is dangerous and discourages cycling. Other road routes are large diversions or tight twisty lanes. The canal follows the route of the A6 (with a few wiggles out) to Galgate, Forton and Garstang and would be much safer, healthier and more pleasant for cycle commuting and leisure.
Thanks for the opportunity to comment. My big concern is with the number and extent of potholes on the road through Halton and out to the Crook O Lune. There must be over 100 potholes in a mile long section. Very dangerous for cyclists ( and expensive for car owners too).
25 years of relying on paint on the roads to make cycling an attractive, safe and convenient way to to travel local journeys really doesn’t seem to be working. Perhaps it’s time to try a different approach.
