Remove rat runs to encourage cycling (and a non-update on the Transport Masterplan)

An interesting article from Rachel Aldred on the Guardian bike blog about 20mph speed restrictions and how they should be enhanced by other measures – such as cutting out rat runs – to make cycling safer and more attractive. Could she possibly have read section 6.4 of  the Dynamo submission to the draft Transport Masterplan? (No, probably not.)

On the matter of the Transport Masterplan, we have been trying hard to meet the authors so that we can put the case for cycling before the report is finalised. We have had no response at all. Our fear – call us cynical if you like – is that the potentially inspiring vision of a cycling network and post-M6-link-road changes to Lancaster city centre have been pushed to one side, and that no one from County wants to tell us that before the report is published.
