Lancaster city centre Experimental Traffic Regulation Order – update

On the last post about this (20 February) we urged people to object to the ETRO so that it should be amended to permit rush-hour cycling.

The latest news is that Lancashire County Council is postponing the implementation of any order – largely, it seems, because of objections from drivers with disabilities who would no longer be allowed to park in the pedestrian zone.  Instead, the council will carry out more in-depth consultation and is forming a  “Lancaster City Centre Traffic Management Stakeholder Group”.  Dynamo has been invited to join the group, and Patricia will attend the first meeting on 12 March.  (Well, she doesn’t get out much.)

So we have an opportunity to argue for commuter cycling in the pedestrianised areas outside core hours.  Watch this space.
