Heysham – Lancaster cycle route

Dynamo has been pushing for an off-road route linking up existing footpaths between Snatchems beside the River Lune, North Farm and Heysham Moss. This would provide a direct dedicated cycle route between Heysham and Lancaster to promote everyday cycling for commuting to work and school, or for shopping. Such a route would be a strategic improvement to the existing cycle infrastructure, providing a direct route between Heysham and Lancaster.

This route did appear in an earlier Cycling Strategy from Lancaster City Council in the late 1980s/1990s but was never realised. Dynamo tried again in 2005 without success.

This time Paul from Dynamo has met the two local MPS to gain their support and has spoken to the Morecambe Bay Partnership, who have recently been awarded almost £2million from the Heritage Lottery Fund. One of their aims is to connect and sign family-friendly cycling routes between Walney and Glasson. Dynamo is also following this up with Lancashire County Council.

See the Autumn 2013 newsletter for a description of the route.
