A6 campaign: Cabinet member for Highways response

Councillor Michael Green, Lancashire County Council Cabinet member for Highways, Transport, Economic Development and Planning has responded to our letter regarding the A6. His full response is available here: Michael Green reply.

The letter begins to have some worrying connotations given the recent sounds Dynamo has been hearing from council officers who seem to suggest that their work for cycling in Lancaster is done now. That Lancaster University has 13% of staff journeys made by bike seems to be being used as an indication that no further work needs to be done. Well, 13% is nowhere near the uptake we could expect from that route given better conditions, and our councillors seem to be forgetting (for example see the assumption here) that there are other journeys that people in Lancaster might want to make on their bikes (for example  the current Dynamo committee has no  members who work at the university, and yet we still want to cycle in safety around our town).

Well anyway, we’ve just learned that Michael Green is now stepping aside for Councillor Tim Ashton to retake his old cabinet role at Transport, so we will continue to push forward the message that their work in Lancaster is not finished…
