Lancaster and Morecambe cycle forum – Wednesday 29th June

The first meeting of the Lancaster and Morecambe cycle forum was last Wednesday at the Gregson Institute. The meeting was chaired by Ian Welsby, Head of Projects and Implementation, Environment Directorate Lancashire County Council.

Other organisations represented (or individuals connected with the organisations): Rough Stuff, CTC, the police, Cogset, Sustrans, Dynamo, Uni of Cumbria, Lancaster University, BikeIt.

The purpose of the group was decided as More people cycling more safely, more often. A worthy aim!

Some of the most valuable things that seem to have come out of the meeting include the praise for Bikeability, and Tristan Heaword from Lancaster police described the Operation Chainguard scheme being pioneered in Lancaster and Morecambe.

Schemes were discussed by the council for infrastructure improvements, Lancaster University presented their own success at increasing cycling commuting, and ideas were discussed for future projects and schemes. At the end of the meeting telephone numbers and emails were exchanged and it is expected that more will come of this!!!
