Compulsory cycling helmets

There’s a link here to a petition against legislation currently passing through the Northern Ireland Assembly on making it illegal to ride a bike without wearing a cycling helmet.

Such a measure would undoubtedly reduce the number of cyclists on the road, and put more barriers in the way of cycling in Northern Ireland. Whilst obviously not immediately affecting us in Lancaster and Morecambe, it illustrates the ways that legislators often misunderstand cycling.

The petition against the bill is being lead by CTC and Sustrans.
